Margot Robbie Takes the No-Pants Trend to the SAG-AFTRA Picket Line

Margot Robbie made sure to rep her union merch while joining the picket line.

The Barbie star showed her support for the ongoing strike by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. She joined fellow actors and picketers at a rally in West Hollywood yesterday.

For the outing, she repped SAG-AFTRA in the form of an oversize white T-shirt that read “SAG-AFTRA on strike!” She embodied this season’s no-pants trend by eschewing any visible bottoms and, instead, wearing the oversize tee as a minidress. She finished the look off with brown-tinted circle sunglasses, chunky white sneakers, and her very own picket sign.

On July 13, Robbie told Sky News she was “absolutely” supporting the strike, which began July 12. “I’m very much in support of all the unions, and I’m a part of SAG, so I would absolutely stand by that,” she said.

The work stoppage marks the first simultaneous strike by the actors of SAG-AFTRA and the screenwriters of the Writers Guild of America in over 60 years. The actors are demanding better compensation in a media landscape transformed by streaming, and have additionally raised concerns over studios’ plans to use artificial intelligence in a way that could eliminate thousands of jobs.

“At some point, the jig is up. You cannot keep being dwindled and marginalized and disrespected and dishonored. The entire business model has been changed by streaming, digital, AI. This is a moment of history,” SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher said during a press conference in July. “If we don’t stand tall right now, we are all going to be in trouble.”
